Day 3: Giant Donuts Destroying the World?
Day 3: Giant Donuts Destroying the World
Today's film story comes from a short film I made called, Donuts. It is a ridiculous idea with practically no plot other than giant Donuts destroying the world. You might be asking how this idea came to be and that is a great question. I remember drawing a poster for the film way back in like 2012 or 2013. It was a funny idea to me at the time, but I knew I wasn't skilled enough with 3D models to pull it off. I am still not that great with 3D models, but I made the film anyway in 2016. It turned out pretty good for what I had to work with and my limited knowledge of 3D animation and realistic CGI.
I feel like this has potential though. I could see myself coming back to this simple idea in maybe 10 years and making a feature out of it. It would be an apocalyptic comedy film with your usual plot: A family doesn't want to believe that the world is going to end when everyone around them is evacuating so they stick around a little too long and soon Donuts are coming crashing down. They must flee in there small 4 door sedan with the dad driving crazy through the streets. Adam Sandler, you interested?
Below is the poster for the short film I drew back in 2012 or 2013.
The short film is extremely basic. I wanted to do more with it, but we only shot it in one day and I spent around a week editing it and getting it to where I wanted it to be. I even edited some news footage from Mousetrap 2 and Sundog to feature giant donuts destroying the world. It's a funny video with some cool editing effects.
What I learned: It's good to have ideas and future goals that you know you can't accomplish quite yet, but sometime in the future you will be able to.
