Day 6: The Man, The Myth, The Mouse

Today's film story is how we created the villain for my 1st and 2nd feature films. The idea came back in 2013 when we coming up with ideas for what my first feature film should be. My dad and I were going back and forth with idea and he came up with the plot of teens spending the night in an abandoned school with a murderer. I remembered we had this old mask downstairs that always scared me as a kid. This mask would end up becoming the mask of a murderer, The Mouse! So now we had a mask behind the murderer. We decided to go with a jean jacket and jeans to keep a janitor look to the murderer.

A little back story:

The back story is never shown in either of the films, but it was created by my high school teacher Bryan Joyce and I for a haunted house themed around the Mouse. The Mouse was a janitor at the Pax Valley School back in the 60's and was liked by all of the kids. He got into a terrible steam accident in the school's boiler room and his face became disfigured. The kids, scared by his face, started acting differently towards him. He turned from a happy, outgoing man to a stone cold killer. He found the mask in the theater room and stopped doing janitorial work. School authorities noticed he had disappeared and just thought he quit, but when teachers started going missing things turned around. The school eventually was forced to close after numerous teachers were found slaughtered under the school in the tunnel system. Police did an extensive search of the school, but never found the Mouse. The legend has it he lives in the abandoned school killing anyone who enters.

So there is the back story for anyone who has seen Mousetrap and Mousetrap 2, but didn't know why the Mouse was a killer. The Mouse is one of my favorite characters in my films because there is so much more to this man than a murderer. I hope to someday make a prequel to Mousetrap to tell the backstory of the Mouse.
