Day 7: 108 Years. The Cubs World Series Film Story
Today's film story is about one of the most memorable nights I've had since I've lived in Chicago. This would be the night the Cubs won the World Series. I was not planning on going down to Wrigley just because I was watching the game at home. It was not until the 7th Inning that I called my buddy Connor and told him we couldn't miss this. We ran to the L and hopped on. The whole train ride over there we were checking our phones just hoping we could catch the end of the game. We got off the L and it was the top of the 9th I think so we had to move. One other thing to note is that the L would not go to the usual Wrigley Field stop, which is Addison, because there were too many people down there. So we got off one stop before and started to see what our options were.
The streets going to Wrigley were all blocked by cops. Not just like one cop, but at least 9 or 10 cops at each roadblock with big trucks. No one was getting to Wrigley on their watch. We started to run down an alley, but came to a roadblock in the alleyway as well. People to our left started to yell so we followed them. We ended up running through someone's little basement alleyway thing and jumping a couple of fences before coming up on the other side of the roadblocks. We were now in front of Wrigley.
We wanted to get to the front of the stadium where the big sign was, but the crowd was so packed. It was now in extra innings with a rain delay so we had extra time to get up to the front. No joke, I have never been in crowds like this before. It was INSANE! People on people on people. At some point some guy in the crowd knocked my hat off. I didn't think and reached over and knocked his hat off. He started to come at me, but I told him to chill and I quickly moved through more people. Fights were breaking out around us because people were getting pushed. When you have thousands of drunk people pushed up hard next to each other, it doesn't go well. Anyways after pushing through the crowd for a half hour we got to a good spot in front of the sign.
When the Cubs won, we all went crazy. It was one of the most surreal experiences to be down at Wrigley in a crowd of people who have been cheering on the Cubs their whole lives. I was able to experience the most insane night in the history of Chicago. I captured my entire night and got back to my place at around 2 or 3. I decided to stay up and edit it so I could get it up in the morning. I stayed up until like 4:30 and uploaded it to YouTube. The video ended up getting picked up by CubsHQ, Dugout Legends, Paul Konrad of WGN, and a couple other Chicago Accounts. I will never forget this incredible night!
What I learned: Go the extra mile. I could've gone to bed that night, but who knows if CubsHQ or Dugout Legends would have put my content on their site if it was done a day or 2 later.
