Day 19: MOUNTAIN MAN!

Day 18: MOUNTAIN MAN!

Today's film story is about the first ever found footage short I made. It is called Mountain Man. It is about a group of friends who are headed to Mankato when they hear a radio announcement of people gone missing at the Mountain Lake Mountain. They decide to drive over to the Mountain and check it out. You'll have to watch to see the ending.

This was a totally different kind of movie that I was used to making. It's all about making this look like a genuine trip and like I am tagging along filming it. The camera is meant to be handheld and shaky and zooming in and out like a vlog almost. We wanted this to feel like a real adventure we would take and we totally would if this actually happened to us. Surprisingly there was a script for this short film. It's about 10 pages long, pretty much all dialogue. I wanted to script it to really plan it out but I left a lot of open space for the Kyle, Colin, Trent, and I to be natural and let this thing flow.

Everyone's favorite part of the short is when Trent is tackled. It is hilarious and it was the hardest part to film. We ended up doing the scene all the way up to the moment of the tackle a couple times to really nail down the lines and get the location right. Then the moment came when Trent got slammed from behind by Dylan. Dylan come up his leg and Trent was definitely sore after the tackle. The short film turned out great and there is a lot of humor in it especially if you know us at all. Check out the Behind the Scenes and Bloopers video of Mountain Man video below.

What I learned: Moving around from genre to genre in film making is a great way to experiment and learn in different ways.
