Cottonwood Update #26: The Cabin
As I continue to edit the film and update the blog I will be posting stories from filming this summer. This week is the story of the cabin featured in the film.
In the film the police are called out to hear a report from a man who lives in a hunting cabin out in the middle of the woods. I told my dad about this scene and he told me the best place to film would be at John Holt's hunting cabin outside of Windom. John is a good friend of my dad and me and so we went out there. He ended up being out there and so we talked to him. He said we could film out there so it was all set. This location is literally what I was picturing in my head when I wrote it. It's always awesome to find that perfect location you envisioned when writing the script.
It came to the nite of filming the scene and we started to move gear into the cabin. I quickly realized this would be very interesting filming here because we did not have a lot of room. We had a big crew and not a lot of room to work with. The good thing was, this scene needed little to no production design. We came in and moved some stuff around and added our own pictures, but other than that it was perfect. Pictured above is me, the director. Brian Turner (Boom Operator), Jordan Allen (Gaffer), and Dalton Bristow (AD).
As you can see above, there is not a lot of room to work with. Pictured above is Kyle Antes, Greg Lunn, and Greg Carlson.
Filming went really well at this location. It could not have gone any better. I want to thank John Holt for allowing us to film in his cabin. Its the little things like the shotgun shell lights and the deer pictures on the walls that really pull this whole scene together.
In the upcoming weeks I will continue my series of stories from this summer. Thanks so much for reading.
